The origins of Santiago de Compostela date back to 10th century. It is a beautiful city with a great artistic and historic value. It is a UNESCOs World Cultural Heritage, as it is the Way that leads there, and with one of the largest and best preserved historic districts in Spain. It is surrounded by a large group of easy-access parks and green areas, all of them very well integrated in the city.

Our school of Spanish in Santiago de Compostela organizes at least 2 free activities weekly. In the summer the average is of 4 activities a week:

● The first day we invite the students to a guided tour around the city followed by tapas in the historic district. This activity is carried out if there are at least 5 students beginning the course.
● Visits to museums, exhibitions, historic buildings.
● Attending to concerts, cinema, theatre…
● Commented movies.

THE LANGUAGE SCHOOL

Our Spanish language school in Santiago de Compostela was founded in 1994.

The school is very centrally located at a 2-minute walk from the historic district of the city, very close to the Cathedral. It is a small, family-like school managed directly by the owners.

The school in Santiago offers 6 classrooms and an area with 11 computers with free Internet access for students. Furthermore, there is wi-fi connection available in all the facilities.

Depature: Saturday

Family accommodation: Selected by the school after a personal interview. The criteria for selection are: comfort and cleanness in homes, kindness and friendliness of the hosts and proximity to the school.
Half Board (breakfast + lunch or dinner) or Full Board.

Shared flats: Available year-round. Double or single rooms, equipped with a desk and heating. They have a washing machine and fully equipped kitchen. Cleaning service once a week in common areas; students must clean their own bedrooms. Bed linen and towels are NOT provided, so students must bring their own.

Hotels: The School can book rooms in hotels of different prices and categories. All of them are very centrally located either in the New or in the Old Town. Please ask for a list of hotels, with prices and contact details.

	SPANISH COURSES IN SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA ________________


	>> TEACHING METHODS Our teaching methods are based on the communicative approach. Special emphasis is placed on conversation, so that students can make themselves understood in Spanish right from the start. We think it is essential for the students to actively participate in the lessons; to achieve this main goal, grammar exercises and vocabulary work are combined with oral practice and pronunciation drills: group work, discussions, role playing, games, literary & journalistic texts, audio & video recordings of real material...

	:: INTENSIVE COURSES >> Course 20h Daily: 4 lessons Levels: all This course focuses on language fluency as a main goal. The four major skills students will practice are reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students are active participants and learn Spanish grammar, vocabulary and common expressions by working and speaking with their classmates. >> Course 25h Daily: 5 lessons Same structure as the Course 20, but with 5 extra lessons per week, focused on improving oral communication in Spanish.


	>> LEVELS On the first day of school, students who already have some previous knowledge of Spanish will be level-tested to ensure correct placement from the beginning. Lessons start immediately after the test. All levels are offered from Beginners to Advanced. Our 7 levels follow the European Framework of Reference for Languages and the guidelines of Instituto Cervantes. Students completing their courses successfully will be granted the diploma and academic report which certifies the type of course, the number of hours studied and the level of proficiency attained.

		:: TAYLOR MADE COURSES >> One-to-one / private tuition From 2 to 6 hours of class per day (x 60 minutes) in order to focus only on the students needs. In the first lesson, the teacher assesses the students abilities, and together they plan the objectives of the course to maximize the progress. >> Course 25+5h / Course 25+15h Daily: 6/8 lessons 25 group lessons + 5 or 15 one-to-one hours (x 60 minutes), dedicated to work on those aspects of the language that need to be reinforced or to improve oral communication skills. This course is approved as Bildungsurlaub in Germany.

	:: CULTURAL ACTIVITIES Attending to concerts, cinema, theatre... Our teachers will go with you to the most important concerts and cultural events taking place during your stay in Santiago. Gathering and coffee A teacher will take you for a coffee (or a chocolate con churros!) to one of the superb cafes in the Old Town. The point that you can have a pleasant chat with your teacher and have a nice time. But you have to take part in it!! Film showings In the facilities of our language school you can enjoy showing of Spanish or Latin-american films. All students can attend these projections for free. Afterwards, and provided there is some time left, a teacher leads an open discussion about the film. Spanish music samplings We select some songs, bands and singers that adequately represent the current music scene in Spain or Latin America. We also listen to some “classics” of modern music. This activity is complemented with comments from the teacher, texts and explanations about the lyrics.




		:: EXCURSIONS Half or full day excursions to places of great historical or ecological interest: Natural Park of Corrubedo / Barbanza Peninsula, ciudades (A Coruña, Pontevedra), Rias Bajas and Fishing Villages, Finisterre, National Park of Atlantic Islands, Ribeira Sacra, hiking around Santiago... The cost of these activities will depend on the place we visit. Excursion to A Coruña The 2nd biggest city in Galicia. We visit the most interesting parts: the Old Town, the sea promenade and Riazor Beach, the harbour and marina, the Torre de Hércules (a Roman lighthouse which is still in use)… Afterwards we can visit the aquarium, looking over the sea, and the interactive museum Domus-House of men. Excursion to Pontevedra The capital of the Province, this city houses one of the best preserved (though less known) historical quarters in Galicia. We shall also visit the Provincial Museum and its impressive collection of Celtic remains: jewellery, masks, tools… Rias Bajas and Fishing Villages An excursion through the Rías Baixas (Lower Bays), in the South Coast of Galicia. We visit the fishing village of Cambados, where the famous Albariño wine is produced. We shall be able to visit a “bodega” and enjoy a wine tasting. Afterwards, we visit the picturesque fishing village of Combarro; the National Trust maintains and preserves this site because of its medieval streets and typical buildings like horreos (grain stores) and cruceiros (stone crosses).

	:: ACTIVITIES GOALS Our activity programme chases two main goals: - Help you practice your Spanish in contexts and situations other than the classroom. - Help you gain a wider and more down-to-earth knowledge of Galicia’s culture and society, which is rather different from the image of Spain typically held out of our borders. To this end, the city of Santiago itself provides a valuable help. Here, especially in certain periods of the year, there are plenty of things to do or to see: concerts in all the historic district squares during the summer festivities, many of which are free; museums, also free, as the Etnográfico del Pueblo Gallego (Galician People Ethnographic Museum); film and theater seasons; street shows; all kind of exhibitions… We will keep you up to date about what is going on in Santiago while you are here. Furthermore, our school organizes at least 2 free activities weekly. In the summer the average is of 4 activities a week. On the first day of your course, and provided there is a minimum of 5 students beginning the course, we invite you to an orientation tour around the city followed by a drink and tapas in the historic district. This will be your first taste of Spain!.
